- Description: Believing in love is a good start, but it isn't the whole story. A few thoughts on why love grows only when we live it, and on the small daily act that shows it.
- Author: From Sri Paul

"Love is not a matter of belief. It is a matter of demonstration." That's a quote from Paul Twitchell's book, *Stranger by the River*, worth contemplating.

At first it almost sounds too simple. You may have grown up thinking of love and faith as something to be steadily held in your heart while hoping for the best. For example, you believe someone loves you or vice versa. You believe life will unfold according to your best interests. Those beliefs matter. They can assist when hard lessons arrive, yet they often remain unused, untested and waiting as a new battery waits for future deployment.

Love that only lives in your thoughts never quite becomes real in your life. If you want to know love, it must be shown. In daily life the opportunity comes in how you treat people, how you spend your time and where you regularly put your attention. This is true in the spiritual life too, yet it's important to begin to realize that there is no separation between the human and spiritual lives. All life forms derive from Divine Spirit; the essence of God/Sugmad. Flesh is composed of matter and Spirit and it is the latter within you that I propose to help you explore and experience.

In the Dhunami teachings this is the reason for a daily spiritual exercise. It isn't a ritual or a duty. It's a few minutes each day when you quietly turn toward the Divine within and say, in effect, "I'm here. I want to grow. I want to know You. Accept this love I feel for you and let me experience its greater versions." That small, steady act is a demonstration. It is also the act of taking love off the dusty shelf and putting it to work for you. Your love is the foundation. It is the fuel and power to explore and ignite love's purer forms pre-existing within your consciousness.

The book's passage goes on to say that in giving love, you receive love and when that exchange is requested of the Inner Master, you'll find that more is returned to you than you can currently offer. That is the way of Divine Dhun Spirit, to give more than is received as incentive to continue spiritual unfolding. This is how demonstrating love becomes a way of living rather than a theory with which to agree.

May the Blessings Be!
